Valve has formalized Counter Strike 2 (CS 2) with a release window and lots of details. Economic model, revised maps, changes, all info.
Something big about the CS franchise was going well behind the scenes. This top secret project is none other than Counter Strike 2 confirmed by Valve.
Counter Strike 2 is coming to PC this summer
In the absence of a Left 4 Dead 3, Valve has evolved Counterstrike 2 in his corner and avoided almost every leak. But the surprise could not be kept after the leak from esports journalist Richard Lewis and files contained in an Nvidia update. On the other hand, apart from its existence, nothing came before the announcement.
In a very dense article, Valve confirms a release of cs 2 for this summer and promises the « plus grand bond technique » throughout the history of the franchise. And like Counter-Strike or CS Go, the game will be followed for a few more years. It will be good news for owners of Counter-Strike Global Offensive free.
With Counter-Strike 2, Counter-Strike makes the biggest technical leap in its entire history, guaranteeing new features and updates for years to come.
All of the game’s new features will be revealed when it officially launches this summer, but you can join us today by participating in its testing phase. The test, reserved for a handful of CS:GO players, will allow them to evaluate some of Counter-Strike 2’s features to fix any issues ahead of its global launch.
Counter Strike 2 is coming this summer as a free CS:GO update. Stock up on ammo, hone your strategies and get ready!

technical changes
Through the video and blog post above, Valve is announcing that Smoke Grenades will now respond to everything. Whether igniting, shooting or explosions with more natural spread of smoke.
Smoke grenades are now dynamic volumetric objects that interact with the environment and react to lighting, gunfire, and explosions. Smoke can now interact with other in-game events. Bullets and explosive grenades can displace smoke for a short time to clear line of sight or otherwise obscure vision.
Smoke now escapes through open doors and broken windows, runs up and down stairs, spreads through long hallways, and mixes with other smoke. In Counter-Strike 2, smoke particles interact with the unified lighting system, providing more realistic brightness and colors.

The graphical and technical overhaul of Counter Strike 2 extends to the existing maps of Counter Strike Go. Maps reworked under the Source 2 engine with new tools and features. The comparison, visible Alsoshows the changes on Overpass, Nuke or even Dust II.
The changes also affect effects like blood, widely visible bullet holes, weapons, or even the UI for something more aesthetic and informative. If you can’t get enough of classic maps, it’s always possible to create them from A to Z using the dedicated tools.
The abandoned tick rate in Counter Strike 2
The tick rate, the rate at which all game data is updated per second, has no place in Counter Strike 2 anymore. This time, movement, shooting, and throwing grenades are no longer affected.
Counter-Strike 2 was designed to significantly reduce the time between taking an action and having it taken into account. Previously, the server used discrete time intervals (“ticks”) to retrieve game status. Thanks to the architecture update made possible by Counter-Strike 2 and the use of “subticks”, the server now knows the exact moment of a movement, a shot or a grenade throw.
As a result, your movements and shots feel just as responsive regardless of the tick rate, and your grenades always land the same.
