You all know the appeal of Xbox for controllers. However, he is not the only manufacturer offering controllers. As a matter of fact, HyperX is also in the game. This time we took over the Clutch Gladiate handcuffs. True to her distant cousins, she knows how to add little touches here and there to stand out. As a bonus, it’s officially licensed” Designed for Xbox ».

Welcome customization
The Clutch Gladiate features a dual trigger and interchangeable rear buttons to streamline controls and accommodate different gamers’ playing styles. In addition, this controller offers a comfortable grip thanks to its textured grips. However, I prefer the grip of the Xbox series controllers. Of course, it also features a 3.5mm stereo jack for easy connection to wired headphones. If the grip is generally like an Xbox Lambda controller, there are some subtleties.
As a result, the central buttons are smaller than usual. The Xbox Nexus is embossed and three more buttons have been added to the others. In fact, on the back of the controller you’ll find two triggers that can be assigned to any button, but also a very small button at the “battery” level. The latter is also customizable through the Xbox application. In addition, it has a trigger lock.

Less than 40$ for it? Correct!
Overall, the Clutch Gladiate offered by HyperX is comfortable to hold, but doesn’t come close to the comfort of an Xbox Series controller. However, it adds three buttons and the ability to quickly block LT and RT triggers. The smaller middle keys didn’t bother me. On the other hand ! I played with it for a few hours and didn’t miss a click on the share button. The two buttons added on the back are of course under the two middle fingers and it’s really nice to have them there within easy reach. primarily Finger.
When I speak of the finish staying below Xbox standards, it’s mostly thatit costs less than a Red Pulse or a Blue Shock. In fact, the latter are on sale at $59.99, while the Clutch Gladiate costs almost $40. So we’re $20 less than an “official” controller with three extra buttons. Isn’t that a good argument to give in? Ah, no, small disadvantage! The controller only works in wired mode whether on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Also, in the box there is only a manual, the controller and a 2m95 cable. Which is quite enough to make the console/sofa connection.
Conclusion – A nice alternative at a fair price
I’ve played with the Clutch Gladiate for over twenty hours and have not been disappointed. There is, of course, a little adjustment time between it and the official Xbox Series X | controllers S, but it goes very quickly. Adding the three extra buttons is really a must for certain skill games, FPS or even rhythm games. I don’t know, I’ve always preferred playing in a key other than “A” for this genre. Still, for smooth and quiet storytelling, I prefer the little comforts of the Blue Shock. But for 40$ we don’t hide our joy!
