From the beautiful glossy finish of the launch models to the smooth, rounded-edge cases of the XL upgrade and on into the ‘New’ branch and 2DS variants, the 3DS family of portables is a sizeable one, and over the years we’ve fallen for Nintendo’s clever tricks and happily upgraded the trusty system to something a little better. reliable system. Before we knew it, we were intimately familiar with multiple 3DS consoles. Yes, Nintendo saw us coming a mile away.
Thinking back and counting on his fingers, this writer owned a total of…seven? Yes, technically seven, although two came in an eBay bundle with the games, one of which was given to a colleague. I OG Aqua was replaced when I upgraded to an XL, and I ended up giving that XL to a friend after switching back to a new 3DS with faceplates. Add in the New XL (the SNES one) and the ‘spare’ New XL I picked up relatively recently, and we come up with a perfectly normal and rational seven 3DSs for me. What?
A quick survey of the NL team reveals similar stories across multiple systems. Alana had “one 2DS, one standard 3DS, and then an XL,” while Jim had two standards before upgrading to a very neat Poké Ball New 2DS XL. Across the team — including the sane people who only owned one or two consoles and more, hmmprolific among us– about three 3DS seems to be the average number.
However, we do everything for a website called Nintendo Life; perhaps it’s to be expected that we have more systems in place than someone who works for, say, the Horse & Hound. We also have family members who have gone through multiple systems, and so on ‘oh I absolutely need another one for work’ it can’t be the only excuse people use.
We’re curious to see the average number of 3DSs owned by Nintendo Life readers, so feel free to tell us in the poll below exactly how many consoles in the 2DS and 3DS family of systems you’ve owned since 2011, and then head over to the comments to give us more details.
Still own all your previous 3DS consoles? Did you trade each previous one to get the next one? If so, how did you go about uploading your games? Did you catch the special editions? Those beautiful 2DS variants with molded cases? How many 3DS is too many 3DS?!?!
(Seven, Gavin. Seven 3DSs is a bit excessive.)
