It wasn’t until the release of Wrath of the Lich King Classic that the developers fixed a bug… fourteen years old! This is Val’Anyr, a legendary mass that was difficult to obtain back then.
A fourteen year old mistake
14 years old ! It took World of Warcraft developers 14 years to reduce the power of one of the most powerful weapons in massively multiplayer online role-playing games. In the notes of a patch that will be released this week, it is the legendary mace Val’Anyr that will have its power greatly reduced. Previously, it granted allies shields equal to 15% of healing received:

- Fixed an issue where Val’anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings’ absorb power was higher than intended. Stacked amounts absorbed are now properly capped at 20,000 health.
The funny story is that according to the developers, when the mace was released in 2009, there was a script error in the spell’s description: the amount of absorption was then capped at 200,000 hit points instead of 20,000, just an extra zero that’s available to players of the original one Wrath of the Lich King not noticed.

An unnoticed mistake
A mistake that probably went unnoticed at the time for several reasons. Val’Anyr is a Mace guy legendary : At that time it was very rare to have this type of weapon with you, since the difficulty of recovering it was great. As for them, you have to collect parts in a raid: a high level activity to be done with several people. This collection lasts for several weeks. Which discourages some who don’t have a guild from creating this high-level content in advance.
