Heat wave in Apex Legends is a limited-time mode introduced as part of the Sun Squad Collection event. Similar to the trios layout, you now have to worry about a new enemy that can pick you up if you’re outside and wipe out your health in no time. This time it’s your team against the Sun.
As part of the latest Apex Legends Collector’s Event, this mode’s Heat Waves are designed to make your match much harder. They can make you instantly vulnerable to other attacks, force you into small spaces with other squads, or even kill you if you stay there too long.
Don’t worry, we’re here to show you how to avoid heat waves in Apex Legends and we go explain this mode a little moreas it is estimated end date.

Apex Legends Heatwave Limited Time Mode Explained
Heatwave is a limited time mode in Apex Legends where, in addition to enemy squads and the ring, you now have heatwaves to worry about. Yes, the Sun in this mode has times when it is deadly and you should do everything possible to avoid it.
The mode works exactly like the original Trios mode, but added the threat of heat waves on top. When you enter a match, there will be an additional bar at the top of your screen. The bar itself tells you how long you have until the next heat wave appears.
However, the smiling face under the bar is an extremely important thing to pay attention to. The face will change to indicate one of three things:
- blue and happy – This face appears when you are in a place that shelters you from the sun/heat wave. If you have this on your screen, wherever you are, that’s a safe place.
- Yellow and unimpressed – This face appears when you are in the sun, but not lethal. This shows that you will be exposed when the heat wave hits and you may become toast.
- red and dead – When this face appears, you are damaged by the heat wave and you risk being killed by it. When this appears, panic and find a way out of danger.
The heat waves themselves are usually strongest near the edge of the ring, but the heat will completely ignore any shields you have and go straight to harming your own health, so avoiding it is the best option.
How to Avoid Heat Waves in Apex Legends
Heatwaves in this mode can cause serious damage and leave you vulnerable, especially if your health has already been depleted by other players.
There are several ways to avoid heat damage from heat waves in this mode, but the thing to remember with all of these methods is that there are other people who are probably trying to do the same thing. This means that hideouts can get very crowded and a bit of a kill zone, so be on your toes.
Hide in buildings
If you are already in a building when a heat wave hits, you have nothing to worry about, you are already protected. However, if you’re near a building when a wave starts, it’s a good idea to drop whatever you were doing and run to the nearest one.
The only downside to avoiding the heat this way is that buildings are easy to spot and often have multiple entrances, so if another team enters the same building, you probably won’t know until you face them. face with them.
To give you the best possible chance of surviving inside a building, we strongly advise you to ensure that your shields and health are fully charged as soon as you enter inside. Then, keep your weapon ready to fight the intruders.
Collect a Care Pack
Throughout the event, Care Packages can contain Sunglasses that you can loot and equip to your Legend to increase their resistance to Heat Damage from a Heat Wave. They are not guaranteed to appear in every care package, so loot as many as you can to increase your chances of finding a pair.
Take shelter
Hiding under objects in Apex isn’t a new concept, but Heatwaves give you even more reason to do so. When a heat wave hits, you can avoid taking damage by hiding under an object so it doesn’t hit you directly.
We’ve found it effective to hide under the walkways that connect some smaller buildings and inside open shipping containers (if you’re on a map that has them).
Use heat shields
Heat shields are often used to protect yourself or your team if you get caught in the Ring. While you can still do this in heat wave mode, you can also deploy a heat shield to protect yourself from wave damage.
Respawn has been kind enough to increase the size of the heat shields so you can fit your whole team in them comfortably, but there’s a catch. Shields themselves are less durable if deployed anywhere other than the Ring, so they will only protect you for a short time.
Slide, slide and slide
If all else fails and you are far from a shelter, building, heat shield, or care package, you can move. Sliding is a good way to get around Apex fast (and land some cool finishing moves if you do it right), but in Heatwave mode this traversal option makes more sense.
Sliding while caught in a heat wave will “chill” you, meaning moving in this way will reduce the amount of damage you take from the heat. We advise combining this with one of the other methods above to give yourself the best chance of survival.
