Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty: New information about the expansion will come in June

Cyberpunk, Expansion, information, June, Liberty, Phantom

CD Projekt RED has been fairly silent when it comes to Phantom Liberty, the upcoming expansion to Cyberpunk 2077. But that’s set to change in June.

We haven’t heard much from Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty since December. At the time, there was a new trailer for the game at the Game Awards, but no further information or even a release date was in sight. That should change, because as CD Projekt RED announced via Twitter, the studio apparently plans to publish more information about the paid expansion of the action role-playing game in June.

So it sounds very much like CDPR is either planning its own showcase, or the game will be represented at the Summer Game Fest or the Xbox Games Showcase. It’s not possible at E3, which was just canceled after a number of publishers had already dropped out.

What we’ll see is of course still up in the air, but maybe CD Projekt RED will come up with a possible date in June. The only thing that is certain so far is that the expansion will only be released for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The old consoles, on which Cyberpunk 2077 ran more than modestly anyway, are no longer served with it.

What is also certain is that Keanu Reeves will be making his return as Johnny Silverhand, this time in the illustrious company of Idris Elba, who will take on the role of FIA agent Solomon Reed. Phantom Liberty is said to have the highest budget of any expansion so far, and that’s saying something when you think back to the famous The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Blood and Wine. Apparently, a GOTY edition is also being planned, which will contain the main game and the new expansion.

Until then, after the numerous updates that have turned the release fiasco into a really good game, CD Projekt RED will continue to work on further technical refinements. In April, the overdrive mode for Cyberpunk 2077 will be released, which will give the game the extended full ray tracing or path tracing instead of the previous ray tracing. This is probably only of interest to owners of high-end graphics cards.

Cyberpunk 2077 is said to be even more beautiful, improved by the new Ray Tracing: Overdrive mode and up to 4x performance increase with NVIDIA DLSS 3.
