Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising Received a new trailer at Evo Japan this weekend, teasing a new character and an online beta in May.
Earlier this year, publisher Cygames announced that a follow-up to its 2020 fighting game spin-off Granblue Fantasy was in the works, offering content that looked more of the same but better. Evo Japan took place over the weekend, and surprisingly, there were some fighting game announcements amidst all the excitement. Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is one such game, and it showcases more gameplay action, with a new theme called We Are Who We Are. On top of that, the trailer announced an online beta testing this May, so it won’t be long before players get their first hands with the sequel.
It’s worth noting that this test is only available for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 players, though the game will also be coming to PC. No further details were shared about the test beyond that, but considering it’s scheduled to take place next month, it might not be too long before we hear more.
The trailer also briefly previews the popular Granblue Fantasy character Siegfried, confirming that he will join the roster of characters. “Using the long range of his sword, Siegfried excels at mid-range combat and keeps opponents at bay. He can expend some health to activate Manigance, which temporarily boosts his attack significantly,” says his character The description says.
One of the biggest additions the game has received is rollback netcode, a technique increasingly used in fighting games to make playing online bearable. Inexplicably, it also adds a new mode called Grand Bruise Legends, which is actually Fall Guys, which is both weird and awesome.
