Elder Ring is good. But what if you took what would normally be a third-person action RPG and turned it into a first-person adventure, akin to Skyrim or Stand out? How would that look? How would it play? Well, a new mod answers all these questions in a nifty and well-crafted way.
FromSoftware’s massive open-world third-person epic, Elder Ring, is a very good game to say the least. As a matter of fact, you could say 2022 was the year of the Elder Ringwith The latest role-playing game from FromSoftware take over the world; it seemed everyone was playing, or at least talking about, this satisfyingly difficult game. So it doesn’t really need to be changed. What FromSoftware has done is cool and successful. That hasn’t stopped modders from tinkering, however, and a recently released first-person mod could be a great option for veterans Elder Ring Players to experience the game again from a new perspective.
“First Person Souls – Full Game Conversion‘ is the not-so-catchy title of a mod that was released for the PC version of late last month Elder Ring. As the name suggests, this mod changes the entire game and turns it into a first-person role-playing game. While other modders have tried this before, this is the best execution of the idea, with the folks behind spending “many months” making it Elder Ring feel right when playing in this radically changed perspective.
The people behind the mod (aka ERFPS) notes that it “improves your first-person experience” with new features such as custom HUD elements, new animations, custom head tracking, attack indicators, smoother running, changes to player movement, and many more modifications to adjust the “overall feel”. Since it was first released on March 24th, the modders have updated it and fixed issues. They also recently added a more powerful version of Elder Ringis kickthat’s great how All first-person games need a god-like kick. Slamming baddies with your foot across a map is just plain fun.
ERFPS is available for download on Nexus Mods. Although it currently only applies to the Windows version of the game, it’s easy to set up and you can toggle various of its features if you don’t like some of the more drastic, game-related changes.
