Sony Pictures Animation unveiled another trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versethe sequel to the Oscar-winning 2018 film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verseon Tuesday, and it looks like a civil war is brewing between the many, many spider-men and women (and horses) of the multiverse. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse scheduled for release on June 2nd.
This new trailer fleshes out what we alre ady know about the film’s premise: Miles Morales, the Spider-Man from Earth-1610, taking on the mantle of wall-crawling arachnid superhero Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Though The Spot, the universe-hopping good-for-nothing voiced by Jason Schwartzman, is the film’s rumored primary antagonist, the conflict at the heart of the film appears to be between Miles and Miguel O’Haras, aka Spider-Man in 2099, respectively Approaches to dealing with the threat that The Spot poses. More specifically, whether being a hero means making the “tough but necessary” decisions that others don’t have the will or strength to make.
Whatever the outcome of this conflict between Miles and Miguel, one thing is certain: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is only the second act in a much larger story. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Versethe third installment in the Spider-Verse film series that was previously announced alongside it in 2023 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (then titled “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One)“), is scheduled for release on March 29, 2024.
