It’s still early, but the movie Super Mario Bros. it is already taking shape as huge success based on industry predictions and early box office data.
For Nintendo and Illumination, that means the partnership is likely to continue. During an interview with Screenrant, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed this – mentioning that he was “sure” that the two companies would stick together in the future.
Illumination CEO and founder Chris Meledandri reaffirmed this, describing the partnership with Nintendo as a “really valuable collaboration.” He also noted that he had previously been invited to join Nintendo’s board of directors and said the companies were already “working together in the future.”
If you’ve seen the Mario Movie before, this news probably isn’t a surprise that there’s more to come, but it also means that there could be a lot more than just Mario on the horizon.
While Miyamoto and Meledandri seem interested in working together again in the future, they currently agree that “there’s nothing” they can really share at this time about any other Nintendo-themed projects.
