Daisy Ridley’s role in the war of stars universe is not over yet. Disney announced that The Force Awakens The actress will return as Rey “Skywalker” in a sequel to the latest war of stars Trilogy as the character attempts to bring the Jedi Order back again.
One of three new films announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023 in London On Friday, it will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy with a script by Steven Knight. All Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy really said about it was that Rey would be looking for new violent recruits to start a new Jedi Academy. I’m sure nothing will go wrong this time either.
The character of Rey was at times a lightning rod for controversy in the war of stars fandom throughout the unrest Episode VII through IX trilogy, not least because she was a woman, a mundane factoid that nonetheless drove some self-proclaimed fans into endless internet tizzies.
More recently The Rise of Skywalker made the bizarre decision to restore her lineage by changing her backstory from that of a no-man to the strange child clone of Emperor Palpatine, and pieced together some of the worst lore from original creator George Lucas’ own harried prequel films. Rey’s character has also been a ceaseless source of fanfic fascination, with her strained romance with Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren spawning a million Tumblr debates now known simply as the “Reylo” wars.

This has been newly announced The Rise of Skywalker Sequel also raises some new questions about how Disney will do this New Jedi Order Period in the Star Wars timeline. Director and Writer Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi has done much to shatter the existing mystique and hackneyed tropes surrounding the Skywalker family drama, while JJ Abrams’ The Rise of Skywalker tried to tie them back together. Rey starting a new Jedi Academy just like Luke does certainly feels like normal business and another gentle restart of the repeating cycle. But maybe not.
Lucasfilm announced a number of other innovations war of stars Content, including two other additional films, each set in different parts of the fiction’s timeline. So far, however, none of them have titles or release dates.
