The award-winning indie studio Osmotic Games, which made its name with the Orwell series, has now announced a new project, Closer The Distance. It is a narrative life simulation.
Developer Osmotic Games has teamed up with publisher Skybound Entertainment for the latest work, Closer The Distance. Together they want to publish the narrative life simulation later this year 2023 for the platforms PC (via Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
In the game you take on the role of Angela, who recently died in a tragic accident. When she wakes up in an in-between realm, she can see the small, cozy village of Yesterby where she used to live. She quickly finds that she is connected to the residents and decides to help the individuals get over their deaths.
Each character Angela can interact with is simulated in great detail – with their own emotional states, desires, memories and their respective relationships with other villagers. The complex characters continue to evolve over time through their interactions, with or without Angela’s support.
Through their interactions and choices, you’ll discover the story of the people of Yesterby and the impact Angela has had on the lives of the different characters. Every decision should have a profound influence on the further course of the story. Will you be able to help the Yesterby community recover and break new ground?
In contrast to other such simulations, Closer the Distancen therefore takes a more serious approach, as you have to deal with existential questions about what influence the lives of individuals can have on others.
Closer The Distance does not currently have a specific release date; You can see a first trailer attached.
