Star Wars Celebration 2023 kicked off in London on April 7th, and just hours after the start of the big event, which will span the weekend, Lucasfilm has revealed a lot of new information about the upcoming events war of stars films and projects. Don’t worry about checking out all the news because we’ve collected all the big, cool ones war of stars news here.
A new Star Wars film set after the sequel trilogy starring Daisy Ridley
Perhaps the biggest news to come out of Celebration so far is the confirmation that Daisy Ridley returns to Star Wars. This was announced by Disney and Lucasfilm The Force Awakens The actress will return as Rey in a sequel to the recent Star Wars trilogy. It is set approximately 15 years after the events of Rise of Skywalker and it will be about Rey’s journey to bring back the Jedi Order.
This new Rey film is directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy with a script by Steven Knight. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said the new film will be about Rey as she searches for new Force-sensitive recruits while founding a new Jedi order.
“I’ve always been drawn to the hero’s journey and the fact that the world needs a lot more heroes,” Sharmeen said.
G/O Media may receive a commission
“My heart is pounding,” Ridley said on stage at the event. “I am very excited to continue this journey.”
Plus two more Star Wars films are in the works by Dave Filoni and James Mangold
Lucasfilm hasn’t announced just one war of stars Movie. Three have been announced. And the other two war of stars movies set in completely different eras than Rey’s recurring film.
One of the films is set in the same period as recent Disney+ shows The Mandalorian
Finally, a third film from director James Mangold (Logan) is in development, set in a very different time period of the Star Wars galaxy. Mangold’s film will reveal Dawn of the Jedi and will be set 25,000 years before the prequels.
“When I first spoke to Kathy about doing one of these films, I thought about what kind of film I wanted to do within Star Wars,” Mangold said. “And I thought of a biblical epic, like a Ten Commandments, about the dawn of power. Where did the power come from, when did we discover it, when did we learn to use it?”
No release dates were given for these films, or an order in which to expect them. And considering how many war of stars Movies have been announced and canceled over the past few years, I’m not sure all of these will see the light of day. But I’m excited about this approach. Three new movies set in three different eras seems like a smart way to go about it war of stars back to theaters, giving the franchise and developers more flexibility in where to go next.

Andor Season 2 is coming in summer 2024
during the show war of stars Celebration showrunner and creator Tony Gilroy, along with several of the hit series’ writers and star Diego Luna, offered a first look at the upcoming second and final season of Andor. The footage was only released for the people in the room and has not been officially released online.
Gilroy says the new season will premiere in 2024, possibly in August. Here’s how io9‘s Justin Carter described the second season preview footage.
Footage shown at Celebration teased the return of key figures, including rebel cell members Vel Sartha and Luthen Rael (in and out of his antiques dealer guise), as well as Syril Karn, who appears to have gone out into the world and into a higher class of Imperial citizenship been bumped.
The scenes also showed Mon Mothma slowly building alliances and attempting to bring their disparate senatorial and rebellious worlds together as dissent grows across the galaxy. Multiple footage showed a protest patrolled by stormtroopers, where violence erupted with lots of explosions and chaos.
But the heart of it all was footage of Cassian both sneaking through hallways, seemingly posing as a rebel spy. The trailer ended with Luthen repeating his comment from season one — “Don’t you really want to fight those bastards?” — over a shot of Cassian, dressed in a fancy suit with his hair slicked back, in some sort of fancy bar.
first look Star Wars Skeleton Crew with Jude Law
In new footage presented by Jude Law during today’s Celebration event, the audience was shown a trailer showing children living on an unnamed forest world. They do boring kid stuff like going to school and all that, but they want more. You want adventure. And they find it.
Here’s how io9 described the footage they had seen:
The kids seem to have found their way aboard a mercenary spaceship. There are footage of them encountering strange creatures, holograms of their parents at home begging for their return, and the children being threatened by pirates
The kids find themselves escaping blaster fire at a pirate base and flying off on their new ship before the trailer ends where they are locked in a prison cell carved out of a cave.
A hooded figure approaches and hovers the key to their freedom in a bizarre show of power in front of the children. “He’s a Jedi!” one of the children exclaims as the character lowers her hood to reveal that it is Jude Law’s mysterious character.
Skeleton Crew was announced last year and will explore the world of war of stars “Through the eyes of children,” but the creators make it clear that it’s not a children’s series, “although it stars children.” The series follows a group of kids from a tiny planet who get lost in the galaxy and need to find their way back home. On the war of stars timeline, Skeleton Crew happens around the same time as The Mandalorian And Ahsoka. It will premiere on Disney+ sometime this year.
And that’s it for now. However, with Star Wars Celebration just getting started, more news on what to expect next from the world’s biggest sci-fi franchise will most likely be revealed over the course of the weekend.
