Media Molecule, the developer behind the fantastic LittleBigPlanet, has announced that it is working on a new game. The developer also announced that it will stop serving the innovative collaborative game Dreams on September 1, 2023.
For Dreams fans, you can still access, create and share Dreams after the service is discontinued. You can even buy it after the service ends. However, the game will no longer have any new updates or content, including community events such as the Impy Awards.
Dreams will be migrating to a new server, which will allow developer Media Molecule to make some much-needed changes and ensure stability of the game going forward; this will arrive in late May. A full list of all the changes brought about by the server migration can be found in a post shared to the Dreams website.
All in all, players will be able to delete creations (instead of archives), publishing creations will be easier, and prize bubbles will be removed. There will also be a final Community Jam for Dreams in April 2023, and some specific missions and trophies will be removed. Players can also expect more changes, including the removal of Twitch integration.
With the Dreams service out, a new project is underway; what does it mean for Media Molecule? Well, the developer says it’s continuing to “work on fun, fun, innovative experiences” and that while it’s always wanted to expand Dreams, “we can’t define a sustainable path.”
As for its new project, Media Molecule is coy about revealing any details just yet, but has confirmed it won’t be Dreams 2, nor will it be part of the Dreams IP. It also said it was “extremely excited about what’s to come”.
Dreams is still currently available on PlayStation 4. Let’s hope Media Molecule’s next game hits more platforms, as its unique, captivating game certainly deserves to be enjoyed by as many people as possible.
