I’ve been a World of Warcraft player for over a decade, and on many occasions I’ve been gone and back for long periods of time. Even so, I am aware that in the market there are other awesome MMORPGs With which I would surely spend hours and hours in front of the screen, The Elder Scrolls Online being one of those that I have always wanted to give it a try.

In fact, I already had the opportunity to try it a few years ago and at that time it gave me very positive feelings, but not enough to get me fully involved. However, a few weeks ago I had the opportunity to travel to London for an event organized by Bethesda, where they allowed us to enjoy their next expansion for just over an hour: The Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom.

It was in January when the presentation of Xbox & Bethesda Developer Direct already caught my attention for some of its novelties, especially for its setting, since it is noticeable that its creators They have been clearly inspired by HP Lovecraft’s novels For their develpment. As a great fan of this theme, it was the key I needed to want to play it and most likely what encouraged me to give MMORPG a hard time.

Cosmic horror grips the Telvanni Peninsula and new areas

What will be the seventh expansion for the game is created to offer a new and different experience to what has been seen so far. As I have indicated previously, the setting is one of the key points of this new chapter, for which that lovecraftian touch and above all a kind of cosmic horror.

The design of the new areas, as well as that of their enemies, leaves no doubt that these details have been a clear inspiration for this new story that will be presented more than 30 hours of new content. The trip will take us through the Telvanni peninsula, the homeland of the dark elves, but you can also visit the kingdom of Apocrypha, which is characterized by supernatural events.

From the little that I got to see, one of the areas that I visited, Croma Incognito, stood out for its purple sky, with giant mushrooms everywhere and also for the fact that it seemed like a huge place to go from one place to another . Even so, it seemed like a mere procedure to locate what was really interesting, such as the Infinite Library, one of its dungeons with their respective enemies and final bosses.

More than anything because this place fascinated me because it was not the typical dungeon with corridors, giant walls, etc. His name is not even painted because it is about a place made up of huge towers of books and sheets of paper. Everywhere you looked you only saw walls and mountains of books around you while you had to deal with groups of creatures and more powerful bosses with a design that looked like it had been taken from a bad nightmare.

With this new expansion it has been promised that we will have to walk between different realities with the aim of discovering a mysterious conspiracy that could endanger Nirn and Oblivion. Still, we won’t be alone, as new characters and familiar faces will appear along the way, along with two new companions to help us in our cause.

This pair of allies can be recruited to fight side by side with us, who can be leveled up, improve their equipment and earn their friendship to unlock new missions. For the rest, there will be no lack of all kinds of challenges, rewards, events and the new Trial, Edge of Sanityin which up to 12 players can team up to delve into the tormented mind of a Mage Guild recruit.

This is how the Arcanist spends them, the new class

The fact that there is a new plot, new adversaries, characters and places to visit is always good news and something to be grateful for, but without a doubt one of the biggest novelties of this expansion is the Arcanistthe new class that will join the action and the only one we got to play with in this preview, to see firsthand what makes it so special.

It won’t matter which playstyle you’re most familiar with to begin with, as this new class is designed to be a tank to take hits, a heavy hitting DPS, or a healer for lend a hand to our colleagues when they are weakest.

His abilities are based on mastery of magic, which allows him to channel arcane energies and employ ancient runes to unleash all his power. His different styles are very well differentiated from each other and it is easy to jump between them, which at the same time will alter the skills that can be used or the weapons that he will wield.

Likewise, another key detail of the Arcanist is the fact that use some combo points called Crux. Each and every one of his abilities are based on the consumption of these points, so he will do more damage or heal more, for example, depending on how many have been spent. In any case, in the presentation they already warned us that they are not essential to progress, although the difference between using them or not will be noticeable.

The new class fits perfectly with this new chapter by fully fitting in with its setting. And it doesn’t matter if it’s your first time in the game or not, as has almost been my case, because you can start your adventure directly in The Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom without having to overcome previous expansions. If you add to this that it is now in Spanish, I have definitely run out of excuses for not creating an account at once in this MMORPG.
