Necessity makes you inventive: After Nvidia decided not to allow the GPU Technology Conference (GTC) to take place in 2020 as usual, the manufacturer gave way loudly Golem now to an online event to still hold the planned keynote from CEO Jensen Huang.
The GTC was supposed to take place from March 22 to March 26, 2020 in San Jose, California, right after the Games Developer Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, which was also postponed because of Corona.
Nvidia itself stated in one official press release:
"The decision to hold the event online rather than at the San Jose Convention Center reflects our top priority: the health and safety of our employees, our partners and our customers. (…) We are grateful to the many great people and partners who have worked to support this event and thank you for your understanding in these unusual times. "
The company also announced some details about the online version of the GTC:
- Jensen Huang's keynote will be available online as a live stream. Nvidia will publish the exact schedule at a later date.
- Nvidia's partners will also make their planned lectures available as an online presentation.
- Anyone who has bought a GTC pass for the event will receive a full refund of the price.
What is Nvidia planning for the online GTC?
Experts believe that Nvidia will present a new GPU generation for servers as part of the GTC keynote, which is based on the so-called ampere architecture. So far there are no precise details on the specifications of Ampere, even if the rumor mill is bubbling.
