Many regular GameStar readers are older semesters, at least based on the average? One might think. Calculated for Europey, a new statistic from the industry association game paints a completely different picture. For example, 58 percent of Europes aged 6 to 69 play.

Overall, the average age of all people in Europey who pursue the hobby is almost 38 years. Also interesting for me personally, I actually thought I was a dinosaur, but I’m an average Europe player! Except for the number of hours, probably.

Apropos, cough:

Apparently other people who grew up with the medium in the 80s or 90s are still playing today. And of course some of our grandparents got involved with games and stayed with them, which makes up for the proportion of very young players.

A broad spectrum

The market keeps growing

Another statistic from game shows that the Europe games market in 2022 did not grow as rapidly as in previous years, but remained stable. There was growth in online/subscription and game purchases, while hardware declined slightly:

Felix Falk, Managing Director of game-Verband, analyzes the data as follows:

Despite some challenges, the Europe games market proved to be surprisingly stable in 2022. After the strong growth in the wake of the corona pandemic, many had expected a decline in sales, for example due to high inflation in 2022, the decreasing seasons or numerous postponed game releases. Against this background, the small growth of one percent in 2022 is a success with which the Europe games market is stabilizing near the 10 billion euro mark.
