An important element returned to Disney, a similar story that happened at the time with Steve Jobs and Apple.
Steve Jobs’ story with Apple has many anecdotes behind it, not only within Apple itself, but also outside of it. This is the case of Bob IgerCEO of Disney, who recently confessed to being inspired by what happened to Jobs once back at Apple after his only withdrawal in 1985. A great story since, if this return had not taken place, the current history of those of Cupertino would be radically different.
Bob Iger saw himself in Jobs’ mirror when he returned to Disney
The aforementioned CEO retired from Disney in an announcement that took place in February 2020. He remained with the company in what was called “leading creative efforts” as CEO until the end of 2021.. Among his most notable accomplishments, he brokered the acquisition of Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and most recently 21st Century Fox.
Things at Disney are not going well at all, it is said that “turbulent times” are taking place. According to an interview he gave to Time magazine, Bob Iger explained how Steve Jobs cut Apple and Pixar while protecting what it means to stay in these companies.
“The person I think of the most, who I had the chance to observe very closely, was Steve Jobs. They brought him back to the company he founded, in very different circumstances. Talking to him and reflecting on his experiences, I learned a lot from that.”
Iger He is aware that his return had to be done with enthusiasm and without a doubt. Agree to know quickly what is expected of you as a person and what you can achieve. His return to the current environment is very different.
The immediate challenge is to cut costs at Disney
Only the immediate requirement ordered to Iger is to cut $5.5 billion from the annual budget of the company founded in Los Angeles, California. Recognize that it is not easy even though it is something that needs to be done frequently. About the approach that Steve Jobs had when he returned to Apple, he talked about Pixar and what happened with this company.
“You take a company that’s driven by creativity and you apply technology like Pixar, and all of a sudden you end up with this combination that Steve Jobs talked about. Which really made Steve’s heart sing, like he said it, it was a combination of great creativity with great technology“.
Finally, Iger said a merger between Disney and Apple could have happened if Steve Jobs had lived. You just have to think that Apple, with the current development of Apple TV+, has a growth potential that could exceed what Disney+ currently is.
