The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has gone gold, which means it’s not too far away from release.
Gollum, which hits theaters May 25, tells the story of a twisted Stoor with a split personality who searches for his Precious everywhere until he finally finds it and ends his life.
Gollum will use cunning, stealth, and climbing abilities to evade his enemies as he searches for his beloved Ring in the dangerous parts of Middle-earth. However, he also has to deal with Smeagol, his true personality, before it splits in half after possessing the One Ring for 500 years. It’s up to you whether you want Gollum to have the upper hand when it comes to important decisions, or Sméagol to take over.
Throughout the game, you’ll meet well-known characters from Tolkien’s books, some new faces, and many recognizable locations.
Originally scheduled for fall 2022, the game has been delayed until May 2023, and once released, it will be available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The Switch version will be released at a later date.
If you’re keen to pick it up, there’s a fun version of the game available, and it’s called the Precious Edition. Priced at $69.99, it comes with the game, sticker pack, lore, soundtrack, and art exhibit.
But what’s the really cool part about this version? It comes with Sindarin voiceover pack. This pack can be used to change the game language to Grey-Elven, one of the many languages spoken by elves, especially in Beleriand. These are the Elves of the Third Tribe left after the Great Journey. Their language became alienated from that of their seafaring relatives and descended from eleven earlier languages.
It’s a rather lovely language created by Tolkien, largely based on Welsh – one of Tolkien’s favorite languages because of the way it sounds when spoken.
