We can’t wait to tell you more about Dead Island 2, but in the meantime there are some details that can already be advanced to resolve doubts and that are public in game FAQ. If there’s anything that defines this generation, it’s crossplay. Work has begun and democratizes this with Xbox One and Playstation 4, but now we see the arrival of cross-play as something “normal”.
However, this generation has a problem is that it hasn’t gotten rid of the previous generation yet, and many games continue to have older generation versions that somehow limit other certain functions or graphics performance. Crossplay is not far behind, in the end you have to work for several different versions and cases like this, end up having a negative effect.
Dead Island 2: Crossplay but not much
Deepsilver has detailed how crossplay works in their new game, and it might not be as crossplay as expected. For starters, if we’re talking about consoles, only players of the same “brand” can play against each other. I use that term to describe it a bit better. In the case of Xbox, this means that only Xbox One and Xbox Series players will be able to play with each other, but not with Playstation or PC players. So it’s a bit like the same: “Cross but not much”.
Another limitation that the game will have is related to the game host, and it is related to what I said earlier. Only players on a next-gen console will be able to host, this way if you have an Xbox One, you will not be able to host games where there are players with superior hardware, this does not apply to Xbox One X. The same goes for Sony consoles. This is basically the official summary:
- If you are a PC gamer, you can ask others to join you or join other PC co-op sessions.
- If you’re an Xbox Series X|S player or Xbox One X user, other Xbox Series or Xbox One users can join you. You can also join others with Xbox Series and Xbox One X in co-op sessions.
- If you are using a PlayStation 5 system or are a PlayStation 4 Pro user, another PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 Pro can join you. You can also join other players on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 Pro in co-op.
- If you are an Xbox One or Xbox One S user, you can join Xbox Series and Xbox One X co-op.
- If you are a PlayStation 4 user, you can join co-op sessions on PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 Pro.
