Hogwarts Legacy is a resounding success. That’s not really surprising, since we’ve known about the positive reviews from critics, euphoric user reviews, impressive Steam player numbers and more for weeks. But now there are again concrete figures on how much the Harry Potter role-playing game really hit.
And it turns out: Publisher Warner Bros. definitely didn’t expect Hogwarts Legacy to sell so well. The user did on Twitter Timur222 to a post by WB Games’ Senior Brand and Marketing Manager Arien Darby LinkedIn attentive.
Warner Bros. didn’t see that coming
As a result, Hogwarts Legacy sales exceeded Warner Bros. exceeded by a whopping 256 percent – more than tripled! Specifically, the post says:
Hogwarts Legacy has exceeded sales expectations by 256 percent, selling over 12 million units in its first two weeks. That gives a total turnover of 850 million US dollars. In addition, the Twitch record for the most streamed single-player game was broken with 1.3 million viewers.
Of course, fans should note: The numbers could get an upswing again: Because the PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Hogwarts Legacy have currently been released, the PS4, Xbox One and Switch versions are still to come. The former on May 5, 2023, the latter on July 25, 2023.
So looks like a pretty good record for publisher Warner Bros. and developer Avalanche Software. The chances for a Hogwarts Legacy 2 were really good before, but can only improve with the latest development. In terms of DLCs, however, it looks rather meager – you can find out more about this at the following links:
Controversy um JK Rowling
Transphobic comments by Harry Potter author JK Rowling have repeatedly sparked controversy. This article explains Rowling’s statements and summarizes reactions from those affected. What consumers should consider: The author benefits either through direct participation, indirectly, through trademark rights or through other means of sales from all Harry Potter products.
By the way: The first quarter of 2023 went pretty well for the entire gaming industry. A report by GamesIndustry.biz According to the report, total video game sales from this period have surpassed those of 2022 – and Hogwarts Legacy is apparently not entirely to blame. And that despite the fact that two pretty big guns were launched last year with Elden Ring and Horizon: Forbidden West.
