For the first time in its history, Google is in trouble. What has been the internet’s benchmark for the past two decades suddenly finds itself at a disadvantage, and it’s all because of ChatGPT.

Thanks to the million dollar investment it has made (and continues to make), Microsoft is the big beneficiary of the success of ChatGPT and its new GPT-4 language model, which is already built into its engine. Bing search and the Bing Chat ‘chatbot’. Many people discover this alternative search engine and realize that they may not need Google.
Samsung phones without Google search engine
Now comes the blow that Google feared the most: that mobile manufacturers abandon their platform in favor of this new alternative. As internal communications published by The New York TimesSamsung is preparing to abandon Google.
The Korean manufacturer would have informed Google that its future mobiles they won’t use the default Google search engine; instead, they will use the new Bing search engine. It’s a warning that hasn’t gone down well with Google executives, who they went into “panic mode” for the consequences of this move. The big fear is that Samsung will be the first in a long line to drop Google and companies will realize they don’t really need it.
Google could lose Apple as its main search customer
Specific, after Samsung could come Apple, which has a $20 billion deal with Google to use its default search engine on iPhones; it’s the only thing that has stopped Apple from launching its own search engine, which it has been experimenting with for some time now. If Samsung proves that users are no longer asking for Google by default, Apple could be incentivized to shut down its search engine.
This domino effect would be disastrous for Google, which earns billions of dollars every year from searches made from the mobile search engine. The panic is real and the company must react as quickly as possible.
In this sense, it is necessary to understand the next versions of Google that will be announced during Google I/O.
