A Youtuber has the finale of Star Wars 9 in 16-bit optics recreated, thereby transforming The Rise of Skywalker into a sidescroller from the 90s.
Attention spoilers! If you still haven't seen Star Wars: Episode 9 – The Rise of Skywalker and have managed to get through life without spoilers (however that should be possible), then you should also read this news and the video above dont look. Because we are going to talk about some details of the final of the Skywalker saga. Everyone else: look at this, it's fantastic!
From Rey's arrival at Palpatine, through her fight with his red guards dressed in royal guards and Ben Solo's battle against the Knights of Ren to the final blow against the Emperor, with which the Skywalker saga found its final. All of that is scarce ten minute video to see. Even a short trip to Poe Dameron's X-Wing, which has just been copied into the space battle over the planet Exegol, has reproduced Mr Sunday Movies in 16-bit.
The animation artist is responsible for the whole John Stratman, who has already recreated numerous Star Wars scenes in retro graphics, for example the fight in the throne room from Star Wars: Episode 8 or the trailer for Star Wars: Episode 9:
In the last few minutes of the video included at the beginning of this news with the finale of episode 9, Stratman also explains how exactly he went about animating. Among other things, he strictly adhered to original templates from Star Wars games such as The Return of The Jedi and created his sidescroller variant of the video only in normal graphics and only afterwards with the 16-bit look overdrawn.
And if you're interested in Star Wars in general, we have more articles for you. For example, it recently came out how Palpatine managed to survive after Episode 6 – The Return of the Jedi, and there's also a new Baby Yoda mod for Star Wars: Battlefront 2.
