Matt Mercer, star of the dungeons show critical role and the voice behind dozens of cartoon and video game characters, officially confirmed his biggest appearance yet: the voice of hot Ganon The Legend of Zelda: The Tears of the Kingdom.
The actor announced it the news on twitter after the game’s final trailer wrecked the internet yesterday. “I just got the green light from Nintendo so I can FINALLY announce my absolute excitement to voice Ganondorf in The Legend of #Zelda: #TearsofttheKingdom,” he wrote. “It is an immense honor that I have worked to see justice done.”
This isn’t the first time Mercer has taken on the role of Hyrule’s great evil. A fan of The Legend of Zelda Since childhood, he shared a picture of himself in full makeup while playing Ganandorf in his old web series There will be a fight over a decade ago. “I really can’t believe There Will Be Brawl was just a teaser for a mainline Zelda title.” answered The smash bros YouTuber Failboat.
Fans first got an inkling that Mercer was involved when they first heard Ganon briefly speak back in Tears of the KingdomTeaser trailer from February. They freaked out together onlinebut the voice actor didn’t tap his hand at the time, and the earlier trailer didn’t really show what Ganon would look like in that breath of the wild Consequence. Now the fans started freaking out again because Tears of the Kingdom‘s Ganon is cunning and hotter than ever. At least before its release on May 12. The Demon King steals the show.
Before voicing Ganon, Mercer was best known as the jailer for the hugely popular series critical role where voice actors come into the role and play through elaborately D&D campaigns. He is also the voice behind it over watchCole Cassidy, individual 5‘s Yusuke Kitagawa and a host of other video game characters from back in time World of WarcraftReleased in 2004.
Now he’s taking the reins of Nintendo’s newest sex symbol. “Many of you know the burden of expectation on my shoulders and I hope to make you proud,” he said tweeted. Or in Words of Ganon: “Don’t look away. You will witness the resurrection of a king… and the birth of his new world.”
