Yesterday’s live stream about The Division had a lot of information to offer. Now we finally have the first glimpses of what to expect from the upcoming free-to-play offshoot Heartland – including a new trailer.
When it comes to The Division, Ubisoft has put its cards on the table and yesterday announced, among other things, the plans for The Division 2, which is now in its fifth year. But what was even more interesting was that there was finally a deeper dive into The Division: Heartland, the free-to-play offshoot of the series.
Among other things, it was announced that Ubisoft wants to rely heavily on player feedback, which should be obtained in numerous test phases. For future tests on all platforms you can now log on thedivisionheartland.com to register. If you are selected, you will conveniently receive five more keys for your friends.
But there was also fresh information about the game itself. Heartland takes you to Silver Creek in the American Midwest. The city is in shambles after the dollar flu, the surrounding area is polluted, disease and drought lurk around every corner, and of course, plenty of villains are making the rounds.
Starting from a base of operations in an old roller rink called Rockit Rink, you go into your missions. There you can also team up with other players, customize your characters, and prepare your missions by gathering supplies and equipment. The supplies obviously play an important role, because outside of the base it is also about survival, and Silver Creek is said to be significantly more dangerous at night than during the day.
Heartland relies on PvPvE gameplay, which means you not only have to deal with NPC opponents, but also with other players. Before each session, you have three classes to choose from, each with a unique skill: Weapons Expert, Medic, and Survivalist. More information is available in the new Developer Deep Dive:
