Indie hit Cult of the Lamb has just released its first major free 2023 update ‘Relics of the Old Faith’ – introducing a variety of new content.
Players can look forward to a new post-game story, deeper combat, revamped bosses and enemies, higher replay value, photo mode, and various other community-requested features. As part of this update, the game will also be discounted.
Here are the full patch notes for version 1.2.0 – covering new content, fixes, tweaks, balancing and new DLC:
1.2.0 Relics of the old faith (April 24, 2023)
New content
- Added a new story that starts after the end of the base game.
- Added 37 new relics with different powers for the player to collect.
- All 5 weapons have received a new Heavy Attack and Level 2 Heavy Attack.
- Added new Sermon upgrades that unlock extra damage, relics, heavy attacks, and a new ability to re-roll weapons and curses in crusades.
- Added new crusades that appear after the base game.
- Added 13 new encounters with various characters and scenes.
- Added many new battle rooms, with new traps such as rivers, swinging axes, etc.
- Added rooms for fish, meat and relics.
- Added 6 new enemies to fight in new crusades.
- Added 16 new minibosses to fight in the new crusades.
- Added 4 new bishop transformations to fight in new crusades.
- Added Chemach – a new character that distributes relics.
- Added ??? – a new character who provides quests and opens a shop that accepts God’s Tears.
- Added Forgotten Commandment Stones – a new resource used to unlock doctrines you didn’t choose in the past.
- Added 6 new necklaces for purchase in ???’s shop.
- Added 7 new tarot cards to collect.
- Added 2 new creatures – Medusa in Anchordeep and Relic Goat from Relics.
- 4 new buildings have been added – kitchen, common shelter, crypt and morgue, and some have additional upgrades.
- Added 11 new followers that can be obtained in various ways through the game and 7 previous Twitch followers that can be obtained through ???’s store.
- Added 2 new Twitch Follower Forms that are currently only available as Twitch Drops for Steam (will be available for other platforms in the future through normal gameplay.)
- Added 6 new special followers – Leshy, Heket, Kallamar, Shamura, Baal and Aym.
- New missions have been added, including some secret missions.
- Added 5 new runes – obtained through various quests and combat.
- Added Purgatory – a new battle mode in Dungeon Gauntlet and Boss Rush. Use Fleeces to fight bosses from the base game in new ways.
- Added the ability to re-fight Baal, Aym, and One Who Waits in Purgatory.

Photo mode
- Added Photo mode that allows you to tilt, change height and focus, and take photos while pausing the game.
- A gallery has been added to view your photos taken while using photo mode.
- Added an edit option in the gallery that allows the player to add, scale, flip, rotate and undo stickers.
- Added 88 new stickers with the ability to delete and undo.
In general
- Can now change the setting to display followers’ names above their heads.
- Guide descriptions are now mouse-navable.
- Guide descriptions now show button controls.
- Now added Permadeath mode which is unlocked after completing the base game once.
Accessibility
- Fonts for people with dyslexia (English only) – a font option that makes reading easier for people with dyslexia.
- Numbers as Roman Numerals – Change Roman numerals in the game to Arabic numerals.
- Stop Time on Crusade – Time will stop in Cult while visiting Crusades.
- Show Crafting Mode Filter – The player can now turn off the full screen blue crafting mode filter.
- High contrast text option – sets the text to a brighter color where appropriate for easier reading.
- Remove text styling – You can now turn off all bold and italic text for easier reading.
- Main Menu Dark Mode – Change the main menu to dark mode.
- The Flashing Lights option has been improved.
- Remove lighting effects – turn off various lighting and day/night visual effects.
Achievements
- Relics of the Old Faith – collect all the relics.
- Shake Down – Get your Midas coin back.
- True Love Found – Reunite Aym and Baal with Forneus.
- Leader of Leaders – Indoctrinate all five bishops into your cult.
Heretic DLC Pack
- Added 5 new follower forms.
- Added 8 new decorations.
- Added new decorative fleece.
Balancing and bug fixes
- Fishing rates have been adjusted to prevent the player from fishing for too long.
- Fungal falls rose in Anura.
- Dagger damage increased slightly.
- Fleece of the Diseased Heart has been rebalanced with an added dodge minigame.
- The shrine will no longer give coins when completing upgrades after the base game, but instead gives God’s Tears.
- Cloud shadows are re-enabled after being accidentally disabled on PC.
- Added many optimizations for smooth gameplay for hardware with less memory.
- Some miscellaneous general improvements.
- Many small bug fixes.
