Just a few days ago, Ubisoft confirmed that The Division 2 is entering its fifth year and what content awaits you there. However, a technical upgrade appears to be out of the question.
The fact that The Division 2 is actually entering its fifth year and that it is also getting new content was certainly not bad news for fans of the tactical cover shooter. After all, the developers have recently been more concerned with season recycling, which indicated that the end was near. But now it’s clear: it goes on and even a new game mode is rolling.
However, the continuation of The Division 2 immediately raised the question of whether a next-gen upgrade is possible for The Division 2, i.e. a native version for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. After all, Ubisoft has recently given some older titles a boost, such as the 60 fps upgrade for Far Cry 5.
However, it doesn’t look like that, as Creative Director Yannick Banchereau made clear in an interview. Accordingly, no native versions are planned for the new consoles and he also provides a reason:
“That’s unlikely because if we really wanted to take advantage of all these benefits, it would mean that the game would no longer be available on the old generations, since we only have one version of the game that’s available on all platforms,” Banchereau said . “We still have a lot of players playing on all generations and we’re not ready to leave them behind and ask them to upgrade. Right now we’re trying to make sure that every time we add something, it’s also on the old one generation is still running smoothly.”
For the time being, you will have to be content with the update to 4K and 60 fps on the new consoles that was installed some time ago. Massive has plenty of other things to do anyway, after all the studio is working on the upcoming Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and a Star Wars title that has not yet been officially presented is also in the making.
