Developer Poncle celebrated huge successes with Vampire Survivors last year. The inconspicuous pixel game topped the Steam charts for weeks. As has now become known, the brand is to receive a surprising adaptation.
The principle of Vampire Survivors is actually quite simple. You have to defend yourself against hordes of monsters, skeletons and other beasts. However, you don’t attack directly, instead your character automatically hits you. You earn new weapons by leveling up and making discoveries, and building the set is extremely motivating, which is also suggested by the 97 percent positive ratings on Steam.

In the last year, the popularity of the indie gem has literally exploded, and now the success has resulted in an adaptation that probably not everyone would have seen coming. As the founder of the Poncle development studio, Luca Galante, announced, they are teaming up with the production company Story Kitchen and working on an animated series about Vampire Survivors. The producers already have other video game adaptations in the works with Sifu and Toejam & Earl.
Admittedly, Vampire Survivors’ story base is comparatively thin, which is why Galante is happy about the opportunity to give the story more depth and to bring it into focus. There is no buyer for the production yet, as soon as the rough concept is in place, Galante and Story Kitchen want to offer it to every potential partner. A writer is also currently missing, but they are looking for one.
Both parties are of course enthusiastic about the partnership. For example, Dmitri M. Johnson, co-founder of Story Kitchen, says they’ve sunk hundreds of hours into Vampire Survivors and can’t wait to get the material off the ground. Galante, on the other hand, is happy to work with such an experienced team.
