while we wait Elder Ring‘S shadow of the earth tree DLC, a squad of modders called Garden of Eyes, is working on an overhauled mod for FromSoftware’s latest open-world role-playing game, You Died, which will introduce new weapons, additional torrent skins, and much more bloodbornePistol parades in The Lands Between style. As work on the mod pack continues, the team has unveiled the first custom boss fight, which is equal parts mesmerizing and terrifying.
Garden of Eyes is a growing mod group that has already made some adjustments Elder Ring things, incl flying broomsticks And a boss spectator mod. However, my favorite of their creations are the jet and tank mods that you use Get on armored vehicles to commit military crimes in The Lands Between. It’s pretty sick, if a bit out of joint.

As mentioned, the team is back now with a first look at the first boss from their upcoming overhaul mod for Elder Ring. (The mod is currently in Early Access release for the group’s Patreon subscribersand will transition to a free, public version once development is complete.) And y’all…this boss sent shivers down my spine, a haunting mix of bloodborne aesthetics and Elder Ring Scale.
Meet Oedon, an “outer god” who looks like Elden Beast
For the lore nerds out there, Elder Ring has a handful ofouter gods‘, mysterious beings referenced throughout the game but never actually shown. Although they never physically appear, these gods are seemingly responsible for the events before, during, and after the game. The lore type SmoughTown has an excellent video Breaking down what the Outer Gods are, exploring their cosmic nature and possible connection to it bloodborne. At least if you’ve played Elder Ring, you’ve definitely heard of an Outer God or two, as some, like Raging Flame, are directly linked to specific summons that you can use. There’s another, lesser-known, outer god that Garden of Eyes wanted to expand on in their new mod: the mysterious force known as The Primeval Current.
According to the Elder Ring wiki, The Primeval Current is an esoteric energy that pervades The Lands Between. Aside from its association with magic, rhinestones, and the stars, little else is known about this force of cosmic nature. Garden of Eyes saw this as an opportunity to fill in some of the knowledge gaps, leading to the creation of this two-phase boss fight: Oedon, the Urstrom and Oedon, Lord of Cosmic Blood. In a YouTube video from May 1st Demonstrates the encounter, which Oedon looks a lot like the elf beast, the final enemy of the game before the credits roll. You’ve got the gelatinous body, the starry backdrop, the intimidating size. It’s like fighting that idiot all over again, but with a completely different moveset. whoops
“The idea in our mod is that Oedon is actually The Primeval Current, and it’s an outer god from the Elder Ring Universe that could come into contact with that bloodborne Universe,” Garden of Eyes explained on the YouTube showcase. “However, he could only communicate there by language. [Still]he could some of the creatures and some of the scholars from the bloodborne universe to initiate a forbidden ritual that grants him supreme power.”
Oedon “links” the bloodborne And Elder Ring worlds together
There is a lot of mention of bloodborne in the Garden of Eyes YouTube video, and with good reason. As the modders said, Oedon was able to connect bloodborne, which serves as a link between the two games. Garden of Eyes told my city that the team wanted an enemy that could create the vibrations bloodborne And Elder Ring Boss design in which one phase focused on rhinestone magic while the other focused on “blood” and melee attacks. Garden of Eyes elaborated:
In the Bloodborne universe, there is an unseen Great One named Formless Oedon, and basically the MO of him and his followers seek the power of the Old Blood. In our version of the story, Oedon is actually an outer god from the Elder Ring Universe, especially the primordial current from which the power of the rhinestone magic comes. We imagined that’s why people in the bloodborne The universe addresses him as “formless” because he cannot physically interact with other universes and only communicates by voice. In order to gain ultimate power, he led some of the scholars in Byrgenwerth to study the power of the Old Blood and that its combination with the power of Glintstone magic is the key to true insight, and beckoned them to The Lands Between to initiate a forbidden ritual that will allow him to achieve his ultimate goal of becoming the Lord of the Cosmic Blood by acquiring the power of the Old Blood mixed with the power of Glintstone magic.
Garden of Eyes said they were partially inspired by a god named Lovecraft Yes-Sothoth, a cosmic entity and outer god part of HP Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos. While the Lovecraftian influence is evident, Garden of Eyes also noted that Oedon is built around some of the Elden Beast’s animations. Almost everything else is new though: the model, the various graphical elements, as well as a handful of animations for things like attacks and their transformation in the second phase. Garden of Eyes noted that this was a tough encounter that was supposed to take place very late in the game.
“Oedon is meant to be an endgame boss, so I’d put it in a similar difficulty to Malenia,” they said. “However, you have to keep in mind that it’s a completely different experience, as Malenia is more of a humanoid, melee-focused boss, while this one is a large monstrosity with two different styles in its two different phases.”
Oedon’s boss design was inspired by an available trick weapon
Given the similarities Oedon shares with the Elden Beast, you might assume you would encounter him in the Elden Throne, an area that becomes accessible in Leyndell, Ashen Capital after the giant golden earth tree is burned. The location of the fight in Oedon looks almost identical to that of the Elden Beast. However, Garden of Eyes stated that Oedon can be found elsewhere.
“It’s the realm where the primal current resides,” Garden of Eyes said. “You can tell by the boss’s design that he has this ‘crystal’ that is at the core of his being. In the second phase, where the power of the Old Blood corrupts it, it turns completely red, the rhinestone also turns red, and the Red Moon associated with the Old Blood appears. You can also see the capsule surrounding the crystal breaking and being damaged with teeth. This was done to convey the idea of Old Blood corruption.”
Garden of Eyes said the team has been working on Oedon for about five months, with the idea stemming from the motivation to create a unique Whispering Terror weapon. The bloodborne-Style Trickblade is a large curved greatsword that alternates between, and looks like, blood-based and rhinestone-based attacks madness OP, muttering enemies with only a few hits. With this weapon complete, the team thought of building a boss that revolved around it, which eventually became Oedon the Primordial.
“The hardest part was getting it [Oedon’s] Model look good since we are limited by Elder RingThe existing material system of , so it took a very long time to make sure it was as close as possible to our vision,” said Garden of Eyes. “We had to create custom cloth physics for the tentacles to make them look more realistic and fit into the game. The other equally difficult aspect was the gameplay since our teammate GPOL was the one who took care of this side. It was very challenging to tie everything together, coming up with ideas to make the boss fun and engaging while being balanced, and it required a lot of trial and error and bug hunting to make sure everything got right functions.”

All in all, Oedon looks like a cool, terrifying boss that takes advantage of the intimidating nature of Elder Ring and the shuddering elements of bloodborne. As far as I know there is no direct connection between the two FromSoft games. Still, it’s fascinating to see how fanfiction people create and the dedication modders like Garden of Eyes put into bringing their ideas to life. However, if Oedon is as difficult as Malenia, then I absolutely cannot survive unless I have like Tainted let me solo her or RS_Lionheart support me.
