If you are a Galaxy Watch user, we have good news. And that’s it, Samsung has just presented the new version of its smartwatch operating system. It is One UI 5 Watch, a name with which they unify the terms used in smartphones and smartwatches and which focuses on three pillars: better sleep management, more fitness features and physical safety improvements.
Then we’ll tell you everything the South Korean company has shared and when they plan to launch this new system, although expect them to give more details during the presentation of the new generation of Samsung Galaxy Watch.
A UI 5 watch can be beta tested starting this month
Samsung hasn’t set a release date for this new version of the system, but it said it will roll out the update in the second half of the year. This invites us to think that in the month of August, if the tradition comes true, With the presentation of the Galaxy Watch 6 we will have more information about it.
In addition to the new watches, it looks like this update will reach the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Watch 5. And these are the models chosen for the A beta of UI Watch 5 will roll out throughout May and with which users can test new functions.
As they say, Samsung has detailed only three of the novelties of this system. One of them is the improvement of the SOS function or emergency by adding the ability to call an emergency number when certain situations occur.
If we want to be trapped or fall and need help, by pressing the start button on the watch five times and accepting the call, we will contact the health or emergency services. In addition, a button appears on the screen if we want to share personal medical information during the call. This is something that will need to be configured beforehand.
If we go to the health and sports functionssome of the parameters that appear on the screen and that determine the zones of aerobic intensity that we can incur during exercise have been modified.
Thus, and with a scale of five zones, we can know if we are in the warm-up, fat-burning or high-intensity phase. What is really new is that we can set our goals based on our aerobic capacity and, thus, carry out interval training programs in a much more personalized way.
On the other hand, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro improves GPS positioning by adding two new activities for running and walking to thus allow the GPS to read our position better and the data to be more precise.
And since after a good walk it’s time for a nap, the sleep tracking functions have also been improved. The metrics on our rest will be improved to see our sleep habits in more detail (sleep phases, snoring times and blood oxygen levels), but we will also have ‘Sleep Coaching’ directly on the watch so that we do not have to resort to our mobile.
This is intended to make the Galaxy Watch more independent of the phone And, moreover, if we have several SmartThings devices at home, when we go to bed, electrical devices and lights will create the right environment for us to rest better. They didn’t give any details about it, but we imagine they will dim/turn off the lights or go into low power mode.
Oh! and something that They also did not specify which version of Android One UI 5 Watch will be based on.. With the alliance with Google to bring Wear OS 3 improvements before anyone else, we’re hoping the heart of the Galaxy Watch is Wear OS 4, but as they say, Samsung hasn’t given any details on that.
It makes sense, since they cannot present the new version of the Google operating system which, on the other hand, we could see on the stage of Google I / O which will be held next week and of which we will give you all the details in android Xataka.
