With the Indie Box, the entire XboxSquad editorial team offers you mini reviews of very little known or featured indie games. While some don’t deserve to step out of the shadows of the Xbox Marketplace, others might be worth a look. That is the whole subject of this section.
Developed by Eastasiasoft Limited and Hyper Productions, Hyper 5 is a side-scrolling shoot ’em up inspired by 90’s classics. Let’s forget the scenario deftly debunked by cutscenes for now, to focus on what really matters: the shoot!
Pretty effective in its genre, Hyper 5 shines especially through the armory it puts at your disposal. Whether you survive or not and no matter what mode, You earn points and unlock items that you can use to upgrade your ship. Good point, downgrading is also possible to allocate your points to your new current configuration.
When the enemies are legion, it is above all the legibility of the decorations that is sometimes a problem. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve lost my side support pods by crashing them into walls. Luckily, the game’s five levels aren’t very long, with the exception of the very last one, greatly limiting frustration and encouraging replayability after returning to the Armory.
Level selection, arcade mode and time attack are also part of the game, but we will finish the game soon as it only took me two or three hours to get around it which took up my time. And 1000G please! Sold in store for 9.99 dollars, my only advice is to wait for a little promo to try it out Hyper 5an effective but much too short shmup.
I loved :
- The number of weapon systems
- Graphically solid for an indie
I’m sorry :
- Only five levels in the campaign
- We quickly go around the other modes
- A level design that is sometimes more dangerous than the enemies
