The long-running beating franchise Mortal Kombat is known to be getting another film adaptation. One of the main characters in the flick, Johnny Cage, now has an actor.
The next Mortal Kombat film adaptation has found its Johnny Cage. Actor Karl Urban will play the franchise’s longtime character in the flick. Urban is quite a big name, as you know the actor for his roles in “Dredd”, “Thor: Ragnarok”, “Star Trek” and “The Boys”.
The matter is apparently not quite fixed yet, but the “final talks” with Urban are currently taking place. The new film is a sequel to the 2021 strip; Simon McQuoid will direct.
Mortal Kombat 2 is set to start filming in Australia this summer; that’s where both McQuoid and Urban come from. Other cast members returning for the sequel film include Chin Han and Joe Taslim as Shang Tsung and Sub-Zero/Bi-Han.
The fact that Johnny Cage will play a major role in the sequel was already hinted at in the final moments of the first film. In a post-credits scene, Cole Young (Lewis Tan) heads to Hollywood to recruit more fighters for the tournament. The film then ends with a shot of the film poster for Citizen Cage, an action flick starring Johnny Cage.
