The development of the remake of Resident Evil 3 was a well-considered step by Capcom, which was not tackled due to the great success of Part 2. Both titles were worked on in parallel. That the players liked the reissue of the second part so much however, put the developer under pressure.
Even Hideki Kamiya, director of the original, praised the remake of his work. According to his own words, he was so afraid that he jokingly asked Masachika Kawata – director of the remake – to release a DLC that would make the zombies look a little sweeter.
Veterans have to be surprised
As Kawata explains in an interview with Edge magazine (via Segmentnext), the development of the RE3 remake was therefore delayed. Because with the remake of the third part you wanted to outperform the newly released predecessor in all respects. To achieve that, it was decided To surprise connoisseurs of the original more often.
An example is the change to the nemesis. In order to differentiate their behavior from Mr. X from the Resident Evil 2 remake, something new had to be considered. The result is that the genetically manipulated adversary no longer annoys you as much as it did in Anno 1999.
Some content of the original game was also removed. But not without delivering a replacement. Among other things, there is only one end and the Mercenaries mode has been canceled. To compensate, Project Resistance comes with a full asymmetrical and competitive multiplayer mode.
