Could a more prominent zombie heron from days gone by be making a comeback? Speculations are picking up speed that there could be a reboot of Dead Rising.
Capcom’s long-absent zombie franchise Dead Rising could be making a comeback on the gaming scene, according to a new rumour. The first installment in the series was released for the Xbox 360 in 2006 and was one of the first titles to take full advantage of the console’s technology at the time, depicting huge hordes of zombies in an open-world environment. In the person of journalist Frank West, you had to defend yourself against the undead with a wide range of improvised weapons and uncover the truth behind the zombie outbreak.
The game turned out to be a success for Capcom, so several sequels were released. Dead Rising 2 came out in 2010 and focused on motocross rider Chuck Greene and a crafting system, followed by Dead Rising 3 in 2013. The previous series ended in 2016 with Dead Rising 4, but that didn’t meet Capcom’s sales expectations could fulfill. That’s one of the reasons why the franchise had been on the back burner for almost seven years – until now.
The renowned journalist Jez Corden from Windows Central now reports that Dead Rising could still return – in the form of a reboot. The statement was made in the context of the supposed exclusivity deal between Konami and Sony, which we also reported on today.
On Twitter, Corden replied to another user that he had heard reports of such a reboot. However: He cannot present any concrete evidence that Capcom is still working on such a reboot.
A comeback by Dead Rising could fit in with Capcom’s recent strategy, after all, the company has recently breathed new life into several classic games and released remakes. Resident Evil 4 only released one in March. And: The competition from EA and Motive Studios also had great success with the remake of Dead Space. So why not bring back Dead Rising as well? We’ll keep you updated on the further development of the rumor!
