How Transformers Beyond Reality on PS VR2 Deepens Player Immersion, Available Now

deepens, immersion, player, reality, Transformers, VR2

In September, we invited fans to Transformers Beyond Reality, an immersive VR experience that sees one player fight as a human alongside their favorite Autobots to save Earth from annihilation. It’s an exciting arcade-style first-person shooter with epic battles against hordes of Insecticons and Decepticons. Today, PlayStation VR2 gamers can deploy and enjoy the enhanced action.

We are very grateful for the positive feedback we have received from this passionate community. We listened to PS VR players and improved the graphics as requested. It was amazing to scale our game to PS VR2, taking advantage of everything this amazing device has to offer to create an enhanced experience.

“Last fall, Transformers: Beyond Reality gave our Transformers fans a new VR experience they could immerse themselves in. Now, with the title’s exciting evolution to PSVR2, the gameplay is even more enhanced and interactive. “

You will notice a significant jump in quality in Transformers Beyond Reality for PS VR2. Here are a few ways we’ve taken advantage of evolving technology to improve the overall player experience:

Enhance the experience and balance with enhanced visuals and 70fps+ performance

Building console games always involves a balance between frame rate and visual fidelity. This is even more important in the VR medium, where frame rate drops can make an otherwise enjoyable experience physically unpleasant.

For PS VR2, these issues have been resolved and minimized. Our team was positively ecstatic as we added detail to models and textures, increased reflections, and added seemingly unrestricted atmospheric and visual effects, all while maintaining a solid 70fps. It was liberating.

Over 30 enhanced gameplay moments and cutscenes

This extra performance has a huge impact on gameplay, as better looking gameplay and higher frame rates make it easier to enjoy. We were able to add and improve over 30 moments to make the game more engaging. Many of these moments were made interactive (such as a notable scene in which a major enemy uses the environment against the player). Particular care has been taken to ensure the action takes place close to the player, for example with PS VR2’s 110 degree field of view it is immediately apparent just how tall Optimus Prime, Grimlok and Megatron really are relative to the player.

Enhanced haptic feedback intensifies the action

In VR game development, it can be difficult to properly communicate game information to the player. Heads-up displays (HUDs) are useful, but in virtual reality they are less effective. For Transformers Beyond Reality enhancements, we’ve moved from displaying an ammo counter to allowing players to sense when it’s time to reload through the resistance of the PS VR2 Sense controller’s adaptive triggers.

Our biggest reveal was how we were able to improve the player knowing they are being attacked from off-screen. We experimented with red flashes, but it wasn’t effective because so much was already happening on screen. Now whenever the player is hit, they feel that information through the haptics of the headset. It is a natural and intuitive enhancement.

We were so happy to have the opportunity to improve the experience in Transformers Beyond Reality in response to fan requests. We invite old payers to update your game for free and see the updates for yourself. For new players, we invite you to explore your Transformers fandom in this thrilling virtual reality adventure available now on PS VR2.

Equip yourself and let’s deploy!
