In the past few weeks and months there has been speculation about a successor to the Nintendo Switch. Is there a new hardware maybe this year? Nintendo has now actually commented on this!
After the rumors about a successor to the Nintendo Switch, which have recently been coming up again, fans of the Japanese hoped that it might work out in the current year 2023 with fresh hardware from the cult developers – but unfortunately nothing will come of it. Nintendo has now confirmed this itself on the occasion of the announcement of current business figures.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa spoke on the subject in a conversation about the current financial report. Accordingly, no publication of new hardware was included in the forecast published in the course of this for the further financial year up to March 31, 2024. Translated, this means that if such a hardware release – for example a Switch 2 – had been planned, it should have been included in the currently published business forecast for the current fiscal year, and that just didn’t happen.
Even if a successor console to the Switch is probably already being worked on behind the scenes, its release is now ruled out at least until spring 2024. So Nintendo fans will have to be patient for a few more months.
For the current fiscal year, Nintendo hopes to breathe new life into Switch sales by releasing new titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom or Pikmin 4. Existing games should be continuously supplied with new content. For example, an expansion for Pokémon Scarlet / Viloet is planned for autumn. For the current fiscal year, it is hoped to be able to sell 15 million switches, although that is a major challenge.
