Obviously, there is a fundamental difference in favor of the laptop, and that is the fact that, precisely, it is portable in the sense that it is very comfortable to transport from one place to another in order to be able to use anywhere, while a desktop PC, it will be fixed on a desk and having to move it to another place would be a nuisance, in addition to the fact that it cannot be used anywhere. But, aside from that, the truth is that a desktop computer has way more advantages than disadvantages compared to a laptop.
The benefits of having a desktop PC
Ok, we have already mentioned the first disadvantage of a desktop PC, which is the fact of always having it in a fixed position; However, the rest of the things it gives you are all benefits, and that’s what we’ll get to next.
The first advantage, and it must be particularly taken into account if you plan to spend many hours in front of the computer, is the ergonomics. A laptop kind of forces you to use it in a certain position unless you have it with a docking station attached to a keyboard, mouse, and monitor, but then why would you buy you have a laptop and not a desktop? The fact that it “forces” you to be at the desk allows you to have correct posture, place the monitor in the position you want and even use an ergonomic chair that keeps you in a good posture.
That’s something a laptop won’t give you, except in the case we just discussed; with a laptop, if you use it “bareback”, you’ll have a trackpad to move the mouse cursor that forces you to force your hand position, a small and uncomfortable keyboard that also usually gets quite hot because it has all the hardware computer below, and a small screen that requires you to look down. All this, with a desktop PC, you solved it.
The second aspect to consider is the performance; Even if a laptop has TOP hardware, it will almost always lag behind in performance compared to a desktop PC. In addition, at the time when the PC “fails”, it is much easier update and develop with new hardware than a laptop, we therefore come to another advantage: the lifespan is longer.
On the other hand, a desktop PC with the right hardware is much more silent than a laptop, and also operates at a lower level temperature. Laptops, having to fit their hardware into a very small space, are forced to use blower type fans which are not only inefficient, but also much more noisy.
Finally, we have to talk about price. In this area, it depends a lot on the laptop and the desktop PC, of course, but if you want a laptop with decent hardware, you’ll have to spend around $2,000, while if you want a decent PC, with around $1,200 you have plenty and plenty of budget left to buy a keyboard, mouse and monitor. Ok, if you want a gaming PC with a next-gen dedicated graphics card, things change, but it will also give you a gaming experience that laptops can’t (and those that can already cost upwards of $3,000) .
