In previous episodes of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt… I was walking through the Islas de Skellige and I found a strange group of men on a beach. They had the absurd plan to explore a location called “La Cueva de los Sueños”, which ended up being a cave where we drank some herbs that made us hallucinate as if we were on a GTA Online mission.
After the events of our previous adventure, I continued to investigate the Ciri’s whereabouts around the Skellige Isles and did some side quests. Yennefer and I found a village through which the wild hunt. Ciri was there. She arrived badly injured. A boy helped her, but he ended up dead in an “enchanted garden”. Yenn uses dark magic (necromancy) to momentarily resurrect him and tell us what happened.
Yennefer ends up exhausted and disgusted after such a traumatic experience, so she decides to retire to rest… but first she asks me to visit her because she has a problem. personal matter to solve with me. I agree. I take advantage of the trip to contemplate the landscape and collect some plants for potions. Nothing special.
Geralt’s Last Wish
I admit that I am not a fan of romantic stories. not counting the mission The Witcher 3 Last WishThe last story of this type that I really enjoyed was “Love in the Time of Cholera” by Gabriel García Márquez. I think that book filled the quota of love stories for the rest of my life… although there was a little space left for this one.
the last wish is one of my favorite quests from The Witcher 3 and the name of the first book in the saga of Andrzej Sapkowski. It is activated after the events in the garden with Yennefer and deals with the personal matter that the witch says that she must urgently deal with Geralt. And with some urgency (not much) I ride to his location…
The sorceress does not give me too many details about her company: we are looking for Amos var Ypsis, a specialist in Djinn creatures. In other words: genies of the lamp. Not like Aladdin’s genie (big Robin Williams), but like the genie we saw on Netflix’s The Witcher series. He is interested in a Djinn who is in possession of him. He tried to get more information out of her, but Yenn gets ornery when he wants something.
we visited three locations by boat in search of the Djinn. Yenn complains about my complaints while I dive into the icy waters of Skellige in search of the happy Djinn. Teamwork! We can’t find the damn genie, but I do find half a stamp. Yenn opens a portal using the magic of the object to find his other half. I do not know how. I do not ask. We go through the portal.
Love in times of magic and djinns
We appear on top of a mountain, next to a beached ship. If a beached ship on top of a mountain. As I tell you. Yennefer urges me to continue, but I finally stop her dead: “What do you want the Djinn for?I ask him.The power of a Djinn is priceless for a magician“, replies Yennefer. I do not buy the lie, but I play along: “What do you want so much power for?“
Yennefer Cede and the truth comes out: “How long have we been like this, Geralt? With ours? Fifteen or twenty years? We don’t stop separating and meeting again… It’s clear that something attracts us. But I don’t know if it’s a true feeling or a djinn’s prank.“
This is all for my Last Wish, from Geralt. “You asked the djinn to unite us forever. I want to ask this one to cancel the wish“, ends Yennefer with a tired tone. I try to be understanding and empathetic: “Understand. Do you want to know what will happen if we stop being united by magic?” Matter settled. We proceed to explore the ship in search of the missing seal piece.
While looking for the piece, I find the cause of a ship on a mountain: the owner of the Djinn wanted to escape from a storm and the mischievous being took escaping literally. Back on topic: I find the other half of the seal and Yennefer is about to unite them to free the Djinn. That’s the easy part, the hard part is mastering it.
While Yennefer summons and tries to control the djinn, I must face him, silver sword in hand, to weaken him so that Yennefer is not harmed. The combat is not easy, but finally we managed to beat it. “Do you see the spell that binds us? Only a djinn can nullify a djinn’s spell! If you remove it, you will be free!“
The next thing I see is Yennefer and Geralt sitting on the edge of the boat. We both agree that we don’t feel like anything has changed. Perhaps the djinn has tricked us. Maybe not. Yenn thanks me for helping her and that she still feels the same when looking at me… and the feeling is mutual.
Without a doubt and with the matter settled, we decided that the next step should be to find Ciri once and for all… although the world is not going to end for a few minutes of rest. We stayed embraced looking at the vast lands of the Skellige Isles. We do not know if the djinn has broken the spell, but it has become clear that it is something that we do not care in the least.
