After the immense success of the current Mario movie, Zelda fans also rebelled and wished for such an implementation. The chances of this should have increased in the meantime, because there is interest in it.
A few weeks ago, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” was released in cinemas and subsequently became the biggest movie hit of 2023 to date. In the USA alone, the strip grossed over 512.8 million dollars, worldwide it is already over $1.1 billion. As a result, Zelda fans sat up and demanded a film adaptation of the successful franchise – and given the success of the Mario film, the chances of this should now be significantly better.
On the occasion of the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the English speaking colleagues at Polygon conducted an interview with producer Eiji Aonuma and director Hidemaro Fujibayashi and also addressed the topic of the film. In doing so, Aonuma affirmed.
“I’m certainly interested [an einem Film]”, makes Aonuma sit up and take notice, but to qualify: “But it’s not enough that I’m interested in something actually happening – unfortunately.”
So it remains to be seen if the producer can get enough supporters on board to bring Zelda to the big screen. It is always a glimmer of hope that there are considerations and the topic is not excluded per se. Director Fujibayashi also adds, which makes a film adaptation even more likely: “Maybe it’s the voice of the fans that is decisive here.”
In short, Zelda fans should let Nintendo know they’re interested in a Zelda movie. Maybe that will be the final tipping point in the end!
