Mii lovers, never give up hope, as it turns out, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom still uses them for NPCs.
Ah Mies. Easily the best thing in the Wii, they’re a really fun and silly way to make versions of you and your friends, even if they’re pretty limited in what you can actually do. Still, they made a lasting impression on Wii owners, as they’re still around today, and even relevant thanks to a port of Miitopia on the Nintendo Switch in 2021. One thing you might not know is that Miis are actually the base for most of the NPCs you’ll find in Breath of the Wild, and there are even mods that let you import Miis to customize NPCs. Well, for Kingdom Tears players hoping for that to happen in the sequel, there’s some good news!
As shared by Alice or HEYimHeroic who originally discovered Breath of the Wild, Kingdom Tears uses the exact same system for some more generic human NPCs. “Like Breath of the Wild, the human NPCs in Tear of the Kingdom use an advanced version of Mies!” Alice tweeted. “Modding the game allows us to import Miis as Kingdom Tears NPCs!” They even provide some modded NPCs to show you exactly what they are, and yes they did use the one and only Matt (who knows) .
It’s a fun little easter egg for those who like to know a little behind the scenes, and I personally appreciate it for someone who spent way too much time making Miis as a kid. I’m also happy to see that Tears of the Kingdom is back so much fun, but I can’t forgive you for still not being able to pet the dog (and you can’t play Zelda either).
