“Doctor Who” is back and not only with a new season, but also with a special. This now has a new trailer that tells us what to expect in the next three special episodes.
- “Doctor Who” returns to British broadcaster BBC One for a 14th season.
- But before that happens, a special for the 60th anniversary of the time travel series awaits us.
- A new trailer has now been released, giving us the titles of the three episodes and a hint as to what they might be about.
It’s going round again in the world of “Doctor Who”. The latest trailer, freshly released by the BBC, is packed with action-packed scenes and surprising revelations.
First of all, we finally know the titles of the three episodes that will be released to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the BBC series: ‘The Star Beast’, ‘Wild Blue Yonder’ and ‘The Giggle’.
In the trailer section for The Star Beast, we see ant-like aliens attacking Earth.
In “Wild Blue Yonder,” the Doctor, played by David Tennant, and his assistant Donna (Catherine Tate) appear to be in an unfamiliar place. A strange blue mist is wafting through the shafts here.
“The Giggle” then engages our heroes in a bizarre dance with a previously unknown villain, played by Neil Patrick Harris (“How I Met Your Mother”). The scene is somewhat reminiscent of Jigsaw’s deadly game from the “Saw” film series.
But in addition to the obvious, there are still unexplained and surprising scenes that the short video shows us. We see Donna get a shock and meet Yasmin Finney’s (“Heartstopper”) character, Rose. Billie Piper (“Secret Diary of a Call Girl”) bore the same name when she was the companion to the Ninth and Tenth Doctors from 2005 to 2013.
In an official statement about the new Doctor Who episodes, showrunner Russell T. Davies promises that the new anniversary episodes are “just the beginning of the Doctor’s greatest adventure yet.”
Tennant and Tate will hand over their roles as doctor and companion to Ncuti Gatwa (“Sex Education”) and Millie Gibson (“Coronation Street”) after the three special episodes celebrating the time travel series’ anniversary. Gatwa becomes the 15th Doctor and Gibson plays his companion Ruby. The first episode featuring the new duo will be broadcast on BBC One over the Christmas holidays.
The BBC also announced that the new Doctor duo will be joined by Jonathan Groff (“Hamilton”) and “RuPaul’s Drag Race” winner Jinkx Monsoon throughout Season 14.
