Happy Monday! The latest box office charts are in for the UK and, to no one’s surprise, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom comfortably takes the top spot.
According to Chris Dring from GamesIndustry.bizthe latest Zelda from Nintendo is the biggest boxed launch of 2023 so far, surpassing The legacy of Hogwarts by 54 percent. It has also outsold its predecessor, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, by a whopping 173% and is already the fourth highest grossing Zelda game of all time, just behind The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. However, it’s not exactly the biggest Switch launch of all time, as that honor still belongs to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Of course, since Nintendo doesn’t share digital data, we don’t really get a full picture of how the game fared at launch, but if box office sales are anything to go by, we have a hunch Tears of the Kingdom could have become the best-selling Zelda game of all time before but later.
On the other hand, the PS4 and Xbox One editions of Hogwarts Legacy kept Avalanche Software’s game high in the top ten, while Breath of the Wild itself saw a boost in sales following the sequel’s launch, coming in at #8.
Finally, we’re not sure what’s going on here, but Minecraft’s dominance of the rankings seems to be waning. The evergreen title sits comfortably in the top ten from what it seems cubsbut has now fallen to 22nd place after being 15th last week.
