Microsoft finds an ally in Europe for the acquisition of Activision Blizzard
Microsoft’s takeover of Activision Blizzard is in a new chapter, and there are already a few.
On this occasion, the European regulators gave the green light to Microsoft to exercise its right to acquire Activision Blizzard for the agreed price of $69,000 million
As indicated by the Commission in charge of the case, your decision is based on solid evidence: “Based its decision on solid evidence and extensive information and feedback from competitors and customers, including game developers and distributors, and cloud game streaming platforms in the EU.”
One of the most concerning aspects of this purchase was the Possible consequences of the different Activision Blizzard franchises which are currently cross-platform and thus cease to be so, constituting a powerful sales weapon for Microsoft in terms of services and products.
For that, Microsoft promised that within 10 years, the affected licenses would receive special “treatment”.
Once this hurdle is resolved, it looks like Microsoft will be able to buy Activision Blizzard without any problems, adding to the large number of studios the company currently has for game development.
