Nintendo announced today that a new season will be slated for Splatoon 3 next month, as Sizzle Season 2023 begins June 1.

Much like the recent new season (and the introductory relaxation season before that), there is a lot of new content that will be included in the game with this update, including new weapons, stages, game modes, equipment and more. You can get a taste of everything that’s on the way in the trailer above, or read on for a rundown of what to expect.

Meaning phases, Sizzle Season will introduce a brand new Barnacle & Dime battlefield, which appears to be a fully operational mall with a bit of floating turf in the middle. The Humpback Pump Track (try saying that five times faster) from Splatoon 2 will also return, making its tilted arena the third installment in the series.

In Salmon Run, the frantic egg-collecting gameplay also gets a new phase as Jammin’ Salmon Junction joins the fray.

Speaking of which game modes, Sizzle Season will introduce special battles known as Challenges to the game. We’ve seen three of these so far, namely ‘Too Many Trizookas’ (everyone has a Trizooka special), ‘Foggy Notion’ (the arena is covered in fog) and ‘Extreme Jump Battle’ (everyone can jump, you guessed it, extremely high). We’re not sure if there are more around the corner or not, but mixing up the battle rules is always a nice change.

Then we have a fresh new one weapon. First there’s the Paintbrush, which looks like part of the Brushes family of weapons (that would make sense, right?) and has a slightly wider ink spread than the standard Inkbrush. The Sizzle season will also feature the S-Blast ’92, a new Blaster that appears to be modeled after the SNES’ Super Scope controller from the ’90s.

On top of all this, the season will bring with it the usual new catalog full of fresh clothes and items, and a new series of Tableturf Battle cards.

It seems like only yesterday that Fresh Season hit the scene and now it’s not long until the new batch of content in early June. It’s true what they say, time flies when you’re shooting squid…
