Boxing is one of the oldest and most recognized sports that we have in our world, in fact, The first codification of the rules that governed the fights dates back to the year 1743. On the other hand, the rules we currently enjoy date back to 1889. All this after this noble sport was first included in the Olympic Games in ancient times in the 7th century; and as you know, it is still present today in the Games.
To give you an idea, the first data on a boxing match takes place in 1681, however, this sport took place many years before. We know very well that punching or kicking is the most common form of aggression in our society, that’s why although he is unable to access more information, it is believed that boxing has been practiced for many, many years.

As is logical, during all this time in history, boxing has left us with great fights, but above all, great boxers. Perhaps the most important in history are Muhammad Ali and, of course, also Sugar Ray Robinson. The latter has accumulated a total of 202 fights which are divided into 175 wins, 19 losses, 6 draws and 2 draws. The knockouts caused by Sugar Ray Robinson amounted to 110, a figure that places him among the best knockouts of all time. But if we talk about legendary fighters, we cannot forget Rocky Marciano, only world heavyweight champion to retire undefeated.
After this little discussion on the history of boxing (it is not obvious that I am a fan and that I practice it), today I come to talk to you about a service that the profession of manager offers us. This time we can create our own champion, start from the bottom and make him the best boxer ever. Today I bring you the analysis of World Championship Boxing Manager 2, a game from Mega Cat Studios that brings the management of the world of boxing to our consoles. Put on your gloves, get on your toes and… Let’s get straight into the fight!
Technical section
We are facing a game where this section is perhaps the weakest, We are facing a delivery that offers us a well-made pixel theme. However, unlike other games, there is no variety in animations or settings, which leaves this section a little below what the game offers us in general. We are used to this type of theme, but to propose a little more variety in terms of settings, moves or NPCs of the public, even keeping the pixel style would have suited him much better.
It is true that at certain points in the story we can see our gym and different backgrounds, such as houses and others. My references are mainly in the ring, since that's where we will spend most of our game. And over there the movements of the boxers are the same in every fight, there are no signature moves, finishers or "signatures". Of course, you can customize your boxers to give them a unique look, thanks to this we can make it a little different.
Regarding the sound, there is not much to say, the game has English voices and Spanish subtitles. Moreover, the fights also have commentators which make them more enjoyable if you like to enjoy them. Although I already plan rounds to be 20 seconds long and you can put it at x4 speed.
gameplay
World Championship Boxing Manager 2 offers us basic but interesting gameplay. As a good manager, you will have to register your boxer in the fights that seem appropriate to you in order to earn money. You can use this money to improve the facilities that are within our reach to achieve certain effects that I will tell you about below. The menu is simple, although at first it can be a bit overwhelming (like any management game), this time you get used to it very quickly and it manages to be quite intuitive.
As for the facilities that I mentioned a little earlier, we will have a gym to train our boxer and thus improve his statistics; a room to reduce your stress after the fights and another to recover your energy if by chance we have not managed your rest days well. In addition to offering us these services that I have given you, we can improve any of the three rooms so that the effect they give us is even greater.
You've read about stress... And you're probably wondering what it's based on. Well, calm down, I'll explain. After each fight victory you will have the possibility to celebrate it or not: if you celebrate it, your boxer will have less performance in training and his stress level will decrease; if, on the contrary, you decide not to celebrate it, the stress will increase. Be careful not to push your boxer to the limitBecause if you don't want to leave the competition.
All this goes hand in hand with the energy and skills of our protagonist. If we decide to train him every day until the day of the fight, the boxer will arrive tired and will have less endurance in the fight. And as you can imagine... Yes the endurance This is a very important factor in boxing, so try not to miss it and give your fighter the rest he deserves. Now let's move on to the fun... The fights, in this game you will not only have to train your boxer, but you will also have to decide on the strategy for the fight. On each turn, you can change it and you have five options:
- Neutral: A balanced mode between attack and defense.
- aggressive: Go on the attack by taking a little more risk.
- Defensive: Close your guard and focus on holding and dodging blows.
- Take risks: Look for the KO, you will take a lot of risks, but you will not stop throwing punches.
- right moment: Here we are looking for defense and counter-attack, a good strategy to tire your opponent.
As for the game modes that we can enjoy, we have two really interesting ones:
- career mode: You're going to start from scratch, with a mediocre gym and with a boxer who wants to get started in this incredible but difficult world. Your goal? Become the best at everything.
- Historical mode: We can choose between several characters who will tell us their story. There we will go through their lives to find out what happened to them and yes, we will be able to relive that of Sugar Ray Leonard and Rocky Marciano. A success from Mega Cat.
Regarding this section, there is not much more to comment, just to mention that the forms of victory are those that actually occur in boxing:
- EAST: You leave your opponent on the ground
- Technical decision: You complete the rounds and win on points, there are three judges and they will give you a grade or another depending on your performance.
- No: The match ends in a draw.
As you can see, although it is a fairly simple installment, it is ready to give us many hours of fun. World Championchip Boxing Manager 2 was created for boxing lovers and management lovers. Being able to play the role of Sugar Ray Robinson and relive his story a bit gave us the jitters. We are not going to deny it.
Duration
This title offers us a management game, so there really is no clear duration. It is true that its Story Mode offers us several options and each enjoys a different duration, but we can say that each one will take you about two hours. Considering the fact that we can enjoy seven different scenarios, the duration it offers us is really interesting.
In addition, the Career mode allows us to start from the bottom with our boxers and achieve the goal of becoming world champions. As you well know, this in manager games offers unlimited time, all the time you endure receiving and kicking will be well spent. The game is fun and the hours pass quickly.
conclusion
World Championship Boxing Manager 2 takes us into the world of boxing like we've never seen it before, the franchise returns to give us the best of the first game and improve on everything that came before. The idea is good and the game is entertaining, but something is missing... The story mode and the career mode are very well thought out, in the latter you will have to go up the categories until you become the best boxer in the world. And in the first, we will be able to live truly exciting stories, as well as those of two iconic fighters, Ray Leonard and Rocky Marciano.
The game is good, but it has room for improvement, even if like me you are a boxing lover and also like management games, it can give you a few hours of fun. Especially when the fights get tougher and you need to be a bit more careful with the strategy you choose.

- A high number of hours of fun.
- The management is very good, it doesn't get complicated but every decision counts.
Worse
- The movements in combat are very basic.
- Needs more visual variety.
