When Overwatch 2 was originally announced, there was a massive focus on the PvE mode. However, this was missing when it was released and Blizzard recently announced that it would only find its way into the game in a greatly reduced form. The reactions to it were correspondingly indignant and now Blizzard is providing clarity.
When Blizzard introduced Overwatch 2 to the world four years ago, the developers put a lot of focus on the online shooter’s PvE content. However, we had to do without these when we released them last year, but it was promised that they would be submitted at a later date.

However, when a roadmap was released earlier this week, the terrible thing was revealed: Overwatch 2’s PvE mode will only be released in a heavily stripped down form. The emotions of the fans ranged from sad to massively pissed off. No wonder, instead of an extensive story mode including a progression system and talent trees, there are now a few new quests with no real connection every season.
After the shotstorm from the fans, Blizzard is now trying to calm things down. This happened in a simple way with a tweet from Executive Producer Jared Neuss. While the above content is still canceled, players should be able to look forward to some cool story content.
He elaborates: “I wanted to make it clear that while we’ve decided to cut out the hero mode and talents, we have a lot of great PvE content for this year. Big story missions, new cutscenes, co-op Events and single player ‘Hero Mastery’ missions are all on the way.”
He goes on to say that the decision was not easy for the entire team. According to him, the developers are at least as frustrated as the players. In the coming weeks, they want to provide even more context and provide more detail on what to expect on the PvE front.
