Best way to get Tears from Kingdom Hylian Rice

Hylian Rice is a fairly rare commodity in Tears of the Kingdom, but several recipes use it and some quests even require it. If you’re having trouble tracking down the stuff, there are multiple ways to pocket the ingredient in Hyrule, with some being easier than others.

Just buy Hylian Rice in one of the bigger villages

If you’re like me, you want solutions to be quick and easy. As in the real world, Hyrule offers quick and easy fixes only in the form of monetary compensation. So you can just go to a town like Hateno Village and buy Hylian rice from East Wind General Goods on the southwest edge of town. They cost 12 rupees each, so all in all they’re pretty cheap. You can find them in the general stores of most major cities, including Zora’s Domain, Gerudo Town, and Korok Forest. Beedle, the traveling merchant you’ll find in stables and other places around Hyrule, will also stock Hylian Rice, but only temporarily. It’s best to stop by one of the shops in the cities.

But I’m broke, how else can I get Hylian Rice?

The most reliable way to get Hylian Rice really is to just buy it, and I’d say it’s a better investment of your time Earn rupees in other side quests instead of trying to find this stuff in the wild. However, if you try to be frugal, you can find Hylian rice in bodies of water that are shallow enough to walk through and chop down the grass growing within. A simple example is the pond surrounding the Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower in East Necluda. But be warned, the drop rate is incredibly low. So if you’re trying to find Hylian Rice in bulk, it’s going to be quite time consuming.

While Rabella Wetlands is a location that seems fairly reliable, there are some patches of grass throughout Hyrule that can also spawn Hylian Rice if mowed. We were lucky to cut some grass near the Sifumim Shrine, just on the outskirts of Lurelin Village. Ultimately, it still takes longer to chop up some weed, but if you don’t have the money to shop it at the store, it can also be worth it.

You have your Hylian rice. What now?

Hylian Rice is part of recipes for dishes like the Meat and Rice Bowl and Crab Risotto, but is also used to make white dye at the Hateno Village Dye Shop. One point where you actually need Hylian Rice to progress is during the Lucky Clover Gazette quests. Quests like Gourmets Gone Missing and Gloom-borne Illness require you to cook a dish that requires Hylian rice. So make sure you stock up on that the next time you drive through a village.
