The Metal Gear saga has very memorable moments that have managed to make it a very special one and one of the best that has existed throughout all this time. Numerous main characters and enemies have passed through it, as well as its graphic quality and gameplay has evolved, but to this day there are still something specific that is to see it and it is inevitable to remember this franchise.
We are not talking about a weapon, nor about a suit, nor about the codec. Is about the simple cardboard box which has practically always been there and is undoubtedly one of the most iconic elements of the entire series, whose use is simply to help Solid Snake (or the character that uses it) to hide inside it to go unnoticed by any enemy and security camera.
Despite its simplicity, its existence actually has a great reason. And it turns out that Hideo Kojima has always considered himself a fan of the novel Hako Otoko (The Box Man) written by Kobo Abe. In her a photographer moves around the city inside a box and it is what he uses so that nobody sees him while he is taking photos all over the world.
Kojima himself liked the book so much and thought it was such a good idea that he decided to pay tribute adding the box itself to the game, although surely what it did not count on was that its popularity was going to skyrocket so much that it could be considered one of the most special objects in the world of videogames.
