When the Master speaks, we tend to listen. The great Steven Spielberg has just been asked about a new animated film and his conclusion is clear: you have to hurry to see it in dark rooms as soon as possible! But what kind of work is it? We will tell you more in the following news.

Disney and Pixar overtaken?

In the world of animation, the announcement of a new film is enough to draw all eyes to the industry’s must-have studios. In addition to Disney, there is of course the unbeatable Pixar studio, but also famous companies such as Dreamworks Animation or the legendary Ghibli studio. Spielberg has always been interested in various artistic forms, he was very quick to consider the possibility of starting an animation studio, as he did at E3 for many years. He is thirsty for knowledge and loves to be seduced by projects that hardly anyone has thought of. The director of Jurassic Park and other Indiana Jones founded his production company Amblin Entertainment (in the making of the animated film The Animaniacs) and he is also the one who became the subject of a great animated film with the famous reporter Tintin in 2011 Mystery of the Unicorn. Unfortunately, it didn’t have the expected success and the hoped-for trilogy never saw the light of day.

Spirited Away, Spielberg’s favorite

Steven Spielberg has always been drawn to the world of animation in his life and is a big fan of Katsuhiro Otomo’s masterpiece: Akira. He was influenced by this 1988 film and still considers it one of his favorite films to this day. The American director was recently asked for his opinion on other works and said:

I particularly admire Miyazaki’s universe, his taste and his way of telling stories. Spirited Away is one of the best animated films of all time. It could be better than any Disney movie I’ve seen. He had a real impact.

As the Sensacine website points out, the animated film could never have left Japan. Fortunately, critical feedback was excellent, leading the studio to work on an international release. At the time, Disney was responsible for distributing and dubbing Hayao Miyazaki’s creations, but by this time Prince Mononoke was too grown up, so Americans were slow to take notice of Spirited Away. A real masterpiece: The film won the Oscar for best animated film and influenced many directors, including Spielberg. It is the only foreign film to date to have received this award in its field.

Incidentally, the film is the biggest Japanese success for almost 20 years. Suffice to say, if you’ve never seen it before, you know what you need to do.
