Of course, in the list of the most popular Star Wars games, we find Kotor, which should also normally have the right to a remake. Except that…
What could be more worthy of depicting the golden age of gaming? war of stars this KOTOR, alias Knights of the Old Republic. Released in 2003 and developed by BioWare and published by LucasArts, this role-playing game based on the Star Wars universe allows you to delve into millennia before the events of the films and the game found an absolutely exemplary critical reception. In fact, even today it remains one of the most popular titles for fans of the saga. It was enough to want to do a remake to make the project profitable a second time.
KOTOR: The remake in danger?
Last July we heard the terrible news, Jason Schreier told us Star Wars KOTOR remake was postponed indefinitely and Aspyr also suddenly fired the game’s art director and design director. The two studio heads even informed the staff that the project was on hold and the company would seek new contracts and developments. Unfortunately, recent news is no better. Far from it…
In fact, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb shared his views on the development of the KOTOR remake on his YouTube channel when asked about a possible release date. Much to fans’ disappointment, the man states that he doesn’t think the game will ever be released. Apparently, behind the scenes, he hasn’t heard anything about the RPG reboot. “Amusingly,” someone asked Grubb on the same podcast if he thought of the remake Prince of Persia before KOTOR would be available, here is the journalist’s answer:
I always think so Prince of Persia will be released before KOTOR which in my opinion will never be released
A canceled remake?
As disappointing as that may sound, it’s not very surprising news either. The remake was originally created by port specialists Aspyr Media before Embracer Group decided to transfer it to Saber Interactive. It was therefore clear that all these things would take a long time to develop if the project were completely restarted. Right now, there’s a good chance we’ll never get the chance to play the remake, at least not for years to come.
